Today’s Money Saving Monday tip is pretty simple: start borrowing books from your local library instead of buying them.
I love reading and do it pretty much every day. My home office has shelves full of books and I love looking for new ones to read.
But reading can be an expensive habit so I no longer buy every book that piques my interest. These days I only buy the books I really want to add to my collection, and I borrow the rest from the library for free.
My town’s library is pretty small but it still has thousands and thousands of books to choose from. Plus, they have a partnership with neighboring towns that allows me to borrow books from other libraries as well.
Technology has made borrowing from the library easier than ever. I can hop on their website from home or use their mobile app to request books from anywhere at anytime and the librarians will pull them out and put them behind the counter for me to pickup.
Even better, since I got my Kindle Paperwhite I can borrow ebooks too. I just browse their website to find what I need and the ebooks get downloaded directly to my Kindle. After two weeks they expire automatically.
Borrowing books from the library has saved me a fortune and if you like to read you should definitely pop into your local library and see what they have to offer.
