I’m still trying to get myself back into “work” mode after a week long vacation in the Outer Banks. Even though I’m feeling really motivated to get back to work and take Wealthy Turtle to the next level, I was getting used to relaxing on the beach and enjoying a cold drink in the hot tub.
One ting I have been doing a lot of is reading…being unplugged for a week meant I missed a lot of great articles so I’ve been spending some extra time catching up on all my favorite blogs to see what I missed.
Here are a few of my favorites:
5 Tips for Teaching Your Child to Save Up for Purchases – My online friend Miranda Marquit shares some excellent tips for teaching children how to manage money and save up for larger purchases.
As a father of three, I’m very aware of the importance of teaching kids how to deal with money. We give our kids an allowance and let them spend a portion while depositing the rest into their kids savings account at Capital One 360. They love being able to go online and see the interest payment hitting their account each month!
My favorite tip from Miranda is to let your kids make small mistakes. We all want to do what is best for our children and it is easy to just tell them what to do “because I said so” but that doesn’t really teach them anything. Allowing your children to make small mistakes when they are young can teach them valuable lessons that will help them for the rest of their lives.
After all, its better that they make money mistakes when they’re little and don’t have much to lose.
How to Coupon in Minutes While Watching Television – I’ve never been very good at couponing. I have a habit of forgetting to use coupons even when I cut them out and bring them to the supermarket with me.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ll happily use a coupon if it is handy and convenient and I always use one at places like Bed, Bath and Beyond. But I just can’t justify spending a lot of time clipping coupons and scouring flyers just to save a few bucks here and there…I’ll never understand extreme couponers.
But in this post Karen offers a neat way to limit your coupon clipping and organization in just a few minutes while sitting down and watching your favorite TV show. It might even get a lazy guy like me clipping coupons!
How To Stream Media/Internet To Your TV – For Free! – I always love J. Money’s posts because his writing style is so damn entertaining, plus he’s never afraid to poke fun at himself.
In this one he shares his efforts to stream Internet and media services like Netflix through his 10-year old TV. His trial and error…and error, and error experiences are hilarious and he concludes with a great solution.
I have a newer TV with built-in Wi-Fi so I don’t need to worry about streaming difficulties, but J’s post is still worth a read.
I’ve always loved The Muppets and now I get to enjoy them all over again with my own kids. Mahna-Mahna is a silly skit that always made me smile…
