Do you ever open up your electric bill and feel a sudden loss of consciousness when you see the amount due? I know I have and if you’re like me you don’t like paying any more than you have to. There are lots of ways to lower your electric bill, but the easiest one is to simply turn off lights when you leave a room.
My kids are notorious for leaving lights on everywhere we go and it drives me nuts. Not long ago they were upstairs playing while my wife and I were preparing dinner. I went upstairs to call them down to set the table and when I got up there I found literally every light on. Four bedroom lights, two bathroom lights, and the upstairs hallway light were all on even though they were all huddled together in the girl’s room.
Now if you’re only leaving the room for a minute and plan on coming right back it doesn’t make sense to turn off the lights. But if you’re done in one room and don’t plan on coming right back…turn off the light!
A single light bulb doesn’t burn a ton of energy, but when you have a whole bunch of lights on all the time the cost really adds up. Simply getting your family in the habit of turning off lights they don’t need will put a nice dent in your electric bill.
