That’s right…one year ago today I published the very first post on Wealthy Turtle.
Back then it was hard to believe I’d still be here after a year. Those early day where frustrating…it’s not easy to pour your heart and soul into a blog that is only being read by about 5 people!
But that’s the way blogging is, you start off as a nobody and put in your time until finally people start to take notice. If you’re thinking of starting your own blog, make sure you can commit to at least six months of work before you see any kind of payoff.
In the Wealthy Turtle’s first year we published 148 articles, gained 340 fans on Facebook, and 623 followers on Twitter. We also contributed articles to some other fine personal finance blogs (a sample of those guest posts can be seen here) and been featured on some big-time sites like Wisebread, The Houston Chronicle, Bargaineering, and The Simple Dollar.
WT was also a finalist for a Plutus award in the Best New Personal Finance Blog category! That was a huge honor when you consider the many outstanding personal finance blogs out there.
We dug through the archives and pulled out a few of our favorite articles from the past year. Not all of them were as popular as we predicted but they were a lot of fun to write and share with you guys.
What to Look Forward To…
While year one was a decided success for Wealthy Turtle, we’re looking to take some big steps in the months ahead. 148 posts in year one is great, but we’re looking to bump up the posting frequency a bit as long as we can do that without sacrificing quality. We’ll also look to do more guest posts and make the name Wealthy Turtle into a household name.
Above all else, we’ll do our best to publish quality articles that will help everyday folks take control of their finances. So grab yourself a cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy the ride!
