When you first start blogging it can be really hard to stay motivated. No one even knows you exist and you feel like you’re just writing for yourself.
Little by little you meet other bloggers and your site actually starts getting visitors that don’t have the same last name as you. Some of them even subscribe to your blog because they enjoy your writing and don’t want to miss out on anything.
You keep plugging along and making progress one step at a time and thank heavens you enjoy this blogging thing because you sure aren’t making much money at it. Sometimes you wonder if it is all worth it.
But eventually you start getting real traffic and making a few bucks and you even start to get mentioned on some pretty big web sites that people have actually heard of.
And that’s what I wanted to share with you today. I hit a bit of a slump not long ago and had trouble getting anything accomplished, but I decided to re-commit myself and really ramp up my efforts…and to concentrate on working smarter too by focusing on the important stuff rather than wasting time on all the tiny details that don’t really matter anyway.
And I’m proud to say my efforts have started paying off! For the last two months my traffic has been growing steadily and I’ve gotten mentions from some really awesome sites including Fortune, Daily Finance, Business Insider, Yahoo Homes, Wisebread, Rockstar Finance, Money Talks News and Zillow.
So if you’re struggling at something and thinking about quitting, think about working a little harder and smarter and maybe that will be enough to give you a nice boost toward your own goals!

Can Privileged Children Become Broke Adults – Speaking of being born into wealth, can someone who is born into the “right” kind of family and dealt a great hand spoil it all and end up broke? Is Paying Every Employee $70k/year a Good Idea? – A neat article at Investor Junkie discusses one company’s plan to pay all of their employees (including the CEO) the same $70,000 salary. Personally I think it is a dreadful idea. In the past, my employer paid out annual increases at the same rate to all employees regardless of their performance. Even though I was called a “top-performer” and had stellar reviews I got the same raise as the guy in the next aisle who did next to nothing. It completely demoralized and demotivated me to the point where my own performance suffered. I predict this policy will have a horrible impact on the company’s bottom line.
