How Does Survey Junkie Work?
Paid online survey companies like Survey Junkie have become really popular in recent years because they offer an easy way to make extra money in your spare time.
But can you really get paid just for answering a bunch of random questions?
Let me explain:
Marketing research is incredibly important in the world of business.
Just think about it…if you were CEO of a corporation that was thinking about offering a new product or launching an expensive new ad campaign, wouldn’t you want to get some objective feedback before you spent millions of dollars on it?
I’d bet you’d even be willing to pay for that feedback if it meant avoiding a costly mistake.
Well that’s exactly what paid online surveys are all about.
Companies hire marketing research firms to run focus groups and surveys to get opinions from consumers like you before they commit to spending a fortune on new ideas.
Survey Junkie questionnaires usually ask you about specific types of products, what you like or dislike about them, and how important specific features are to you.
Some surveys actually show you sample advertisements that might appear in print or on TV. You get to tell them what you think about the ads and if they make you more likely to buy the item.
This is really important for the companies to determine if their ads are having the desired effect, or if they are unintentionally offending someone.
So in a nutshell, companies pay Survey Junkie to conduct surveys so they can get feedback on their brands and products. And Survey Junkie pays you each time you complete a survey.
It’s a perfect win-win.
Who Can Join Survey Junkie? Is It Free?
Anyone can create a Survey Junkie account as long as they are over the age of 13 and live in either the United States, Canada, or Australia.
There is no application fee, it is 100 percent free to join.
You should NEVER have to pay to join an online survey site.Remember, the survey site gets paid by the companies they run surveys for, not from the people taking the surveys.
If you come across a survey site that requires you to pay for access to surveys, RUN.
These paid survey scams tarnish the reputation of legitimate survey companies like Survey Junkie.
Survey Junkie is always 100% free. Click here to sign up now.
Is Survey Junkie Legit?
Absolutely. We’ve been using the site ourselves and have earned real rewards simply by taking surveys.
Survey Junkie has been operating since 2013, so they aren’t going to disappear overnight. They have a positive rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and they are one of the most popular and trustworthy online survey sites around.
Click on the link below to hop over to the Survey Junkie signup page.
You can choose to sign up using your Facebook account, or sign up through your personal email account.
All you have to do is enter your email address, zip code, date of birth, and then create a password. It takes only a few seconds to create your account and just by doing that you’ll earn 25 points.
Then you can earn more points by answering some general profile questions like:
Do you own any pets?
Do you have any children in your household?
Do you make or share the buying decisions in your household?
Basically, they need to get to know you a little so they can send the best surveys possible.
So you earn 25 points just for signing up. Then another 25 points for confirming your email address, 5 points for watching a couple of slides explaining how the site works, and 50 points for completing the profile questionnaire.
That’s 105 points earned in about 2 minutes of your time!
Survey Junkie Rewards
Each survey you complete earns you points. Each point is worth a penny and you can cash out as soon as you accumulate 1,000 points.
Some survey sites require you to earn $25 or more before you can cash out, but Survey Junkie has a low minimum threshold of just $10 to cash out.
That’s a big plus because you can easily earn $10 in just a week or two just by taking some surveys in your spare time.
Once you hit 1,000 points you can redeem them for cash via PayPal or Dwolla, or gift cards to popular stores like:
- and more…
How Much Can You Make On Survey Junkie?
Let’s be clear:
If you’re expecting to earn enough money to quit your day job, forget it.
You’ll never earn a full-time income taking surveys. It just won’t happen.
But you can earn some nice extra spending money taking surveys while sitting on the couch in your pajamas!
To get a reasonable idea of how much you could earn on the site, I decided to run a test.
I grabbed a beer from the fridge and sat down to watch the hockey game with my laptop next to me. I set a timer for one hour and then spent that hour taking as many surveys as I could.
My strategy, or I guess you could call it my Survey Junkie hack, was to only go for surveys that took ten minutes or less unless the payout was over 100 points. Sticking to that criteria allowed me to choose the most profitable surveys first and maximize my earnings.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of my earnings:
- Survey 1 – earned 130 points
- Survey 2 – earned 65 points
- Survey 3 – earned 75 points
- Survey 4 – Disqualified, earned 2 points
- Survey 5 – earned 65 points
In that one hour I managed to complete four surveys for a total earning of $3.35. I was also disqualified from one because I didn’t fit the profile they were looking for, but I still earned 2 points on that one.
My earnings in that one hour were well below minimum wage, though to be fair it required almost no effort at all. I was sitting on the couch in front of the TV at the time and $3.37 is more than I would have earned otherwise.
Long story short (too late), you’ll never be able to live on the money you earn taking paid surveys online. But earning some extra spending cash isn’t such a bad thing.
What Is Survey Junkie Pulse?
Survey Junkie Pulse is a new feature that promises more survey opportunities than ever.
All you have to do is download the Survey Junkie Pulse extension into your Chrome browser. It runs in the background and will unlock new surveys based on your browsing history.
If you keep the extension installed for 30 days you will earn a $1.50 bonus, but you can remove it anytime you want. To get rid of Survey Junkie Pulse, go into the browser settings and click More tools, and then Extensions.
From there just find Survey Junkie Pulse and click Remove.
Pros and Cons of Survey Junkie
I’m a Survey Junkie user myself and overall I think it is worth trying out. But it’s not perfect, so let’s go over the things I like and dislike about the site.
Advantages of Survey Junkie
100 Percent Free – Survey Junkie is free to join and you never have to pay a penny to participate in any of their surveys.
Some sites require you to sign up for trial offers of various products and services in order to earn points. Those trial offers can often turn into a real headache when you want to cancel them. With Survey Junkie, you won’t deal with any of that. Their site is all about surveys and nothing else.
Easy Money – Survey Junkie is great because you can actually earn money anywhere and anytime. All you need is an internet connection and a device to connect to the site. It works on a laptop, a pad, or a smartphone.
You really can’t beat the convenience of earning money while relaxing on your couch or sitting in your car waiting for your kids to get out of school. You can complete a quick survey or two anytime you have an extra ten minutes of downtime.
And the questions are really easy to answer. There are really no right or wrong answers, just say what you think about the products and ads they show you.
Easy to Use – The Survey Junkie site is incredibly easy to use and if you’ve ever been on the internet before you’ll have no trouble on the site.
You can sign up and start earning money in literally two minutes and if you do run into trouble along the way they have an extensive FAQ section and an easy to reach customer service department.
Flexible Payment Options – Some reward sites only compensate you with gift cards to random places that you have no use for. What a waste of time!
Survey Junkie offers a nice variety of gift cards to retailers you actually use. Even better, you can choose to get paid via PayPal which can be used almost anywhere or transferred directly into your bank account.
Low Minimum to Cash Out – Some survey sites make you accumulate $25 or more before you can cash out your earnings, but with Survey Junkie the minimum is just $10.
Plenty of Surveys to Choose From – I’ve tried other survey sites where the selection of surveys was extremely limited. I could barely find any surveys available which meant I barely earned any money at all.
With Survey Junkie, there are always multiple surveys available whenever I log in. You can even choose to get email notifications whenever new surveys are available.
Disadvantages of Survey Junkie
It wouldn’t be a fair review of Survey Junkie if I only talked about the good stuff. There are a few tings I don’t love about the site.
Surveys Disappear Fast – They currently have over 3 million registered users so the really high-paying surveys fill up fast. If you don’t keep a close eye on them you might miss out on them.
Not Great on Mobile – When you’re on mobile you have to visit their site through your mobile browser, like Chrome or Safari. But the site isn’t very mobile friendly and it isn’t a great user experience. They really need to develop a standalone mobile app like the one Swagbucks has.
Survey Topics Aren’t Listed – When you look at the surveys listed all you have to go by is the estimated time to complete and the amount of points you will earn. It would be helpful to have a better idea of the product or ad so you can choose the ones you’re more interested in.
You Won’t Get Rich – I know I’ve said this before but you just won’t earn a fortune taking surveys. If you’re looking for a steady and significant source of income, Survey Junkie isn’t it. It’s great for supplementing your income and providing extra spending cash, but it’s not going to change your life.
Summary – Is Survey Junkie Worth It?
If you made it this far through our review of Survey Junkie, you probably only have one question left:
Is Survey Junkie worth it?
Let me answer the with a quick story.
A while back when I was first looking into Survey Junkie, I found a Reddit group discussing the survey site and let’s just say it was pretty wild. A number of people were ripping into Survey Junkie and complaining that they no matter how many surveys they took they could never earn a living taking surveys.
Then one woman calmly responded. She pointed out that no one ever promised them they could earn a living taking surveys. Heck, even the Survey Junkie FAQs page specifically says “You will NOT get rich by taking surveys.”
The key is this:
It all comes down to what you expect to get out of the site.
If you’re looking for steady stream of income that will allow you to quit your day job, Survey Junkie is not it. You’d be better off getting a part time job or starting a blog on the side.
But if you’re just looking for an easy way to earn some extra money to pay for a monthly date night, build up your emergency fund, or save for a family vacation, Survey Junkie is perfect for you.
